Construction of a Hindu temple in White Plains NY is planned to begin in upon receiving construction permit from the City of White Plains. The permit is expected after a meeting with City Planning board on October 11, 2013. The temple will be constructed on a two-acre, picturesque, site on route 127 also called North Street, in White Plains.

Message from Trustees.

The date, April 7, 2014, Monday, Nakshatra Aardhra, Tithi Ashtami Sukla Paksha, Karana Visti, Yoga Atiganda; will forever remain in the history of the Hindu temple of tristates as a milestone day.

On Monday, The White Plains City Council, with unanimous decision granted the final approval for the construction of your temple at 390 North Street White Plains. We are grateful to Mayor Roache and the White Plains commissioners for their guidance and support in approving the temple plans. .

With this great news, we are now ready to move to the next phase of the temple project. The first step, which is completed, was to perform soil strength testing of the land so that the structural engineers can determine the proper strength of concrete needed to support the structure. This testing is complete and we are awaiting the test results. In concert with this effort, Ms. Dipti Shah will be filing for a construction permit so that work can begin at the site. .

As many of you know, we need to perform a land fill to change the grade for water drainage and build a retaining wall along the perimeter of the temple site. This work will begin soon. .

.Friends, with yesterday’s Commission approval, there can be no doubt that a Hindu mandir will be built. The question is how quickly can we make this happen? For this, more than ever, the temple needs large amount of funding.

Many of you have been very generous already, please continue to donate. However, many more have remained on the side lines and awaited progress. To them we humbly say we need your help now. If you were waiting, wait no more. Every donation, large or small will make a difference. You have this once in a lifetime opportunity to make something special happen, something you will be proud to be part of. .

A mandir is not an individual effort. It is a collective effort of a community where all are expected to contribute in many ways, but most significantly financially.

Below is an inspiring story, we like to share with you: .

Some months ago at a Hanuman Chalisa event, a young student approached us and asked if there was something he could do for the temple construction. He explained that he was in his final term in the Boy Scouts and in order to achieve its highest citation, he was required to perform a substantial community service. Being a Hindu, he had told his counselors, that he would want to help the Hindu temple of tristates. At that time, there was very little we could ask him to do, but early this year, he followed up with an email reminding us that he was very keen on doing something for the temple. .

.We forwarded his email to our Architect Ms. Dipti Shah, who spoke to this young man and learnt that the Boy Scouts were willing to plant shrubs and trees, build stone walls or anything that required physical labor. The Boy Scout would be responsible for collecting the necessary funds for the material, engage and lead other boy scouts to help and complete the project in time to the satisfaction of the Scout’s counselors. Ms. Shah met with the Counselors and discussed few ideas with them, to which they were very satisfied with the scope of the project. As a result, we have decided, this Young man, under the direction of the Boy Scouts of America will construct the entrance pillars on North Street. This entrance pillars shall be the first construction activity at the site.

We narrate the above to inform, that in god’s work we need to step forward and do our part. Let your heart and conscious be your guide. Your contribution will be rewarded many times over in many different ways and as this young man, will find that his contribution will be the first sight everyone will see when entering the temple grounds, a structure that survives for generations to come. A Hindu temple dwar built under the auspices of Boy Scouts of America! How amazing is that? .

We hope, this inspires you and feels your heart with pride, that even in our young generation, a dream of a temple has become devotion and a call to service. So please don’t think too much but act instead, send in your check to HTTI today and let us begin the hard work that lies ahead. .

We are encouraged by the many congratulatory emails, texts and face book messages received. We thank you for acknowledging our efforts. We humbly request, please speak to your friends, neighbors’ alliances and as many people you know, to spread the word about the forthcoming temple and encourage them to participate in our functions. With many hands to help, we can truly make quick progress of completing the work ahead. .
